It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delores (Moore-Jarvais) Saltzman of Lincoln Township, Clare County, Michigan on October 14, 2021. Delores was born November 13, 1937 in Clio, Michigan. Together with her late husband, Joseph R. Saltzman, who preceded her in death on June 11, 1994, and their children, the family relocated to Lake George, Michigan in 1971. Surviving are three children: Melinda Saltzman, Joel Saltzman, and Mark (Travis Bailey) Saltzman; seven grandchildren: Michelle (Robert) Vanderbrook, Callie (Jonathan) Archbold, Casey Sarkozi, Jason (Nicholas Forfinski-Sarkozi) Sárközi-Forfinski, Zach (Mandy Miller) Saltzman, Jodi Saltzman, Dillion Saltzman; 15 great grandchildren: Victoria Vanderbrook, Armando Vanderbrook, Elisabeth Vanderbrook, Emily Vanderbrook, Michelle Vanderbrook Jr., James Vanderbrook, Jasmine Archbold, Connor Sarkozi, Violet Sarkozi, Henley Sarkozi, Olivia Saltzman, Elijah Flower, Vanessa Saltzman, Jackson Miller, and Dalanie May Saltzman; Great Great grandchild: Gabriella Vanderbrook; many extended relatives: Aunt Vera Harris, Cousins Janice Buchanan, Joyce McCumber, Bob Jarvais, and their families. Delores also left behind many loved ones whose complete enumeration would be difficult to adequately detail. However, Donna Jean Archbold-Camacho, Rebecca Richman Cohen, Teresa Tragus, and Donna Wood are very dear friends she held very close to her heart.

Well-known as “Grandma Dee, the plant lady,” she was known to “WOO HOO” you from her house to come sit, eat, share stories, play Skip-Bo, hold hands, pray, and comfort the grieving. Delores was an artist who loved quilling paper filigree miniatures, knitting slippers, drawing, and painting. A self-proclaimed hermit, she enjoyed Chinese food, western films, visiting other countries via the internet and through her loved ones’ photos and stories. Delores was once a Girl Scout volunteer who loved to teach quilling and arts & crafts to all who asked. She had a deep, private spiritual relationship with God and was a member of the early Lake George Community Church. Delores was an advocate of medical and recreational use of cannabis. She gained worldwide notoriety with the award-winning documentary “Mrs. Saltzman Goes to Jail” found at http://www.racinghorsepro.com/films/mrs-saltzman-goes-to-jail.

Delores used cannabis to treat a host of ailments, including chronic pain, arthritis, and anxiety. Delores was arrested by the Clare County Sheriff Department in June 2018 for having an expired medical marijuana card and possessing .25 ounces of cannabis. Her documentary undoubtedly contributed to changes in recreational marijuana laws in Michigan and continues to be shown by organizations trying to change marijuana laws throughout the world.

Delores requested a celebration of life, scheduled for June 2022 with burial next to her mother, Esther (Durwood) Congdon in the Lincoln Township Cemetery.
