NORBERT A. KAMMERER II

Norbert A. Kammerer II, age 72 of Harrison, formerly Memphis, Michigan, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 23, 2023.  Norbert was born the son of the late Norbert A. and Marion (Rausch) Kammerer on August 12, 1950, in Detroit. 

He was united in marriage to Donna Gies on June 16, 1978, in Harper Woods.  Norbert served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1970-1973. He worked for Formsprag Clutch in Warren as a Quality Engineer, retiring after 47 years.

 Norbert and Donna lived in Memphis until 2020, when they moved to the family’s cottage on Sutherland Lake.  Norbert loved boating from a young age, whether he was offshore boat racing or riding around the lake with his family. He also enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golf and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and the Moose Lodge. Norbert was the proud owner of a 1944 Farmall H tractor that he enjoyed riding with friends and showing off in parades. He even drove it across Mackinac Bridge with the Diamonds in the Rust tractor club. 

     Survivors include his wife, Donna Kammerer; children Melissa (Brian Smith) Kammerer of Durham, N.C. and Nicholas (Courtney) Kammerer of Memphis; his siblings Liz Barney and Mike (Kim) Kammerer.  Norbert was predeceased by his brothers Fred, Jack and Chuck Kammerer.

     A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, starting at 2 P.M. at the residence of Nicholas and Courtney Kammerer in Memphis.  Inurnment with Military Honors will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. at the Great Lakes National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrison VFW.  Arrangements for cremation were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.  On-line condolences may be left at www.stephenson-wyman.com.
