News from Your Sheriff- October 2021

Posted

Happy October Clare County.  During the months of August and September the Clare County Central Dispatch logged 6,784 incidents for the County.  Your Deputies handled 4,530 of those calls, other law enforcement including Clare Police and the Michigan State Police handled 1,426.  County Fire/Rescue agencies responded to 360 incidents.  Mobile Medical Response Ambulance responded to 450 calls. Other units handled 18 calls.

In September of this year, we had 26 larceny complaints where the suspects stole items from boats and boat storage sheds.  These were all in the area of north Cranberry Lake and the south Arnold Lake areas.  Most of the property was recovered and returned to the owners.  Several individuals were charged in these cases.  There were 17 Home Invasion/Breaking and Entering’s investigated in August and September.  4 were in Hamilton, 2 each in Hayes, Frost, Grant and Garfield. 1 each in Clare, Freeman, Franklin, Sheridan, Greenwood.  11 cases of possession of meth were investigated with individuals being lodged in the jail from those investigations.

We currently have 114 subjects in our jail which consist of 69 local, 6 Diverted Felons, and 39 Federal.  We have recently had our annual fire inspection in the entire building.  One of the issues pointed out during this inspection was the lack of adequate fire suppression in our server room.  We will be installing a dry fire suppression system in the near future in that room. Michigan Department of Corrections came and did an inspection on the construction of the corridor we added and gave their approval on the project.  We are currently in the process of removing the temporary walls and getting video and phone equipment relocated in those cells. Once completed, we will be able to open up a dorm that we have not been able to use for several months.

I would like to take this time to wish Deputy Sean Robb well in his next adventure in life.  Deputy Robb has decided to take a job with the Department of Correction after 20 dedicated years with the Clare County Sheriff Office.  Deputy Robb worked many cases over the years and was always proficient in his duties as a Deputy Sheriff.  From all of us here at the Sheriff’s Office, we wish him well.

Well with fall in full swing I would like to remind everyone traveling the roads in Clare County, that it is what we call, “Car Deer Season.”  From September 1 through October 10 we have investigated 81 Car Deer crashes, with 33 of them so far this month.  Most car deer crashes occur at dusk and dawn.  Please be cautious in those areas where deer like to travel.

That’s all for this time

Like Always, GOD Bless

Sheriff John S Wilson
