MSP: Teamwork leads to felony arrest, recovery of stolen vehicle, drugs, and firearms

   On 10/21/2021 at approximately 11 p.m., troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near Clare Ave. and Dover Rd., Clare County, Grant Township. After brief contact with the driver, he fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Troopers, with assistance from the Clare County Sheriff's Department, attempted to locate the vehicle with nil results. Further investigation, that evening, revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a residence near Harrison.
  A joint investigation between the Mt. Pleasant State Police Post and the Clare County Sheriff's Department, identified the driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old Clare man with an outstanding warrant out of Clare County and a suspended driver's license. The investigation was turned over to the Clare County Prosecutor's Office who authorized a felony warrant for the driver for Unlawful Driving Away of Automobile (UDAA), Fleeing & Eluding, and Resisting & Obstructing a Police Officer.
   The Michigan State Police Sixth District Fugitive Team joined the investigation. On 12/15/2021, at approximately 2 p.m., members of the Sixth District Fugitive Team observed the suspect at a residence in Clare County where he was arrested for his outstanding warrants. The stolen vehicle was located at the residence. The vehicle had been repainted and replated with another registration plate. The vehicle was seized along with the contents which included approximately 3.4 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, a SKS rifle, a .22 caliber rifle, hundreds of rounds of 7.62 ammunition, approximately 100 rounds of .22 ammunition, shotgun ammunition, body armor, two high capacity SKS magazines, and 2 high capacity .22 magazines.
   The suspect was lodged at the Clare County Jail and is pending arraignment on several additional charges.
