Minor Injuries in Two-Car Crash on Beaverton Road

At 4:21 p.m. on September 4 Clare County Central Dispatch received a report of two vehicle motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Beaverton Rd and Bailey lake Ave.in Sheridan Township of Clare County. It was further reported one of the vehicles had caught on fire.

When police arrived on scene, they learned a bystander had already used a fire extinguisher to put of the car that was fire. The second vehicle was a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of this vehicle was 72-year-old Garrett Wojton of Dearborn.  Wojton was trapped in his vehicle. When the Clare Fire Department arrived on scene, they used the Jaws of Life to free Wojton from his vehicle. Wojton was then transported by MMR to the Midland ER for nonlife threatening injuries.

An investigation into the accident determined Wojton was traveling south bound on Bailey Lake Ave. when he disregarded the stop sign for Beaverton Rd. Wojton  drove through the intersection at which time a 2013 Dodge Dart driven by 18 year old Bredon Madsen of Battle Creek crashed into the side of his pickup. Madsen sustained minor injuries.

Air bags deployed in both vehicles. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
