Margaret Serviss entered into eternal rest at 100 years old on April 16, 2023 at her home. Margaret was born January 12, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Emery James Balint and Anna (Cserep) Balint. Margaret graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on June 13th, 1940. Margaret was united in marriage to Mr. George “Jerry” G. Serviss on June 30, 1941 in Elsie, Michigan. George preceded Margaret in death on January 31, 2009 after sixty-seven years of marriage. Mrs. Serviss had resided in Harrison since 1984, moving from Trenton, Michigan.

Margaret had a multitude of hobbies. Ranging from boating, sewing, traveling and reading. She kept up on the news, subscribing to 3 different newspapers on top of watching the news on TV-but nothing beat watching old western movies. She remained active, bowling on leagues and attending open bowling when time permitted, as well as attending exercise classes twice a week and walking many miles most days.

If her hobbies didn’t keep her busy enough, Margaret belonged to T.O.P.S. in Clare, Michigan, she was a Chaplin in years past for The American Legion 404 Auxiliary, as well as a member of Harrison United Brethren Church. Margaret also enjoyed playing Mrs. Santa for the children at The American Legion and at the 40&8 Post in Temple, and for the seniors in Harrison. Margaret said herself that she lived a full life and that the best outweighed the worst.

Margaret was survived by an extensive family; Her daughter, LynnDay (Garnet) Lucier and grandchildren, DayNa (Kevin) Cromwell, Garnet (Brandy) Lucier, and Dawn (Scott) Karcher; son, Gary (Sharon) Serviss and grandchildren, Gary (Lois) Serviss, Danyiel (Maynard) Bates, Ted (Hope) Serviss, and Debra Evans; daughter, Jane (Richard) Vershave and grandchildren, Kerry (Dianna) McLenon, Darran (Heather) McLenon, and Patrick (Shanel) McLenon; great-grandchildren, Corrie (Dane) Hine, Amanda Serviss, Jessica Serviss, Heather (Jacob) Hensley, Casandra (Travis) Gerhardt, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Bastian, Colton McLenon; and great-great grandchildren, Amelia Hine, Marlowe Hine, Blake Bastian, Jackson Hensley, Henry Hensley; nieces, Kimberly Geillise, Colleen Daley; nephews, Randy Daley and R.D. Decker.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, George Serviss; parents, Emery and Anna (Cserep) Balint; and sisters, Christine Kramer, Anna Luce, Irene Sheredy, Verna Daley, and Theresa Niewadomski.

Graveside services honoring Margaret were held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Harrison.
