Letter to the Editor-‘Yes’ Vote Critical to Blight Control

Posted

My name is Pat Adams. Many of you may have seen my name in the paper and I was referred to as President of South Cranberry Lake Homeowners Association or as part-time resident. Both are true about me. I have been a long-term supporter of trying to get what many people call blight taken care of. This is a problem in our community.

That is why I am writing this Letter to the Editor, as I want to talk about the special election on Nov. 2  (for Hayes Township) to fund a Nuisance Department. I am very aware that about 50% of the residents of Hayes Township are non-homestead residents. I would like that anyone who has the ability to vote to get this proposition to pass. We need as many people as possible to go out and vote, or vote with your absentee ballot.

Our area is a great recreational area. By voting “yes” on this proposal, it will help improve the area by getting people to improve their homes. If you have neighbors with trash all piled up, yards full of junk, overrun areas with cockroaches, or the yard full of old unlicensed junk cars in our residential areas, this will help to address/eliminate some the issues going on. There is no way all the problems can be eliminated all at once, but it can address the worst of the areas that are bad.

I have gone to the township hall, the police department, the health department and the County Commissioners in the past and nothing could be done in our community, as we (Hayes Township) did not have an ordinance in place. The reason that I was told by the township board was that we did not have funding for the Ordinance Department to be funded.

I ask everyone who can vote to go and vote on Nov. 2 to say “yes” to improving our area. Let’s get funding to fix our areas that need drastic improvements. Getting areas cleaned up is more sanitary for our families, our kids and grandkids. Let’s make this a safer place for them and us. Let’s improve the appearance of our areas, and let’s improve our value of properties. Vote yes on Nov. 2 at Hayes Township.
