LAWRENCE “LARRY” JOSEPH FUHRHOP JR.

Lawrence “Larry” Joseph Fuhrhop Jr. 83 of Harrison passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Medilodge of Clare. Lawrence was born March 25, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Lawrence Joseph Fuhrhop Sr. and Ottila (Boensch) Fuhrhop. After his high school graduation, Larry enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. Larry had resided in Harrison since 1960, moving from Saginaw.  Mr. Fuhrhop retired from the State of Michigan Department of Transportation after thirty-eight years of dedicated service. Larry was united in marriage to the former Penny Strobel on March 19, 1999 in Saginaw.

                Mr. Fuhrhop was a parish member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Harrison, a Charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 7571, past Grand Knight of Council 7571 and a member of Knights of Columbus Assembly #2120 4th Degree Color Corp. Larry served many years as an Usher at St. Athanasius Catholic Church as well as a volunteer at multiple Knights of Columbus events to include: Chicken Barbeque dinners, Sunday breakfasts and holiday food wagon events at various rest areas throughout Northern Michigan. Larry enjoyed attending and watching televised NASCAR races, mowing and meticulously grooming his yard and morning coffee and breakfast with his friends gathered around the round table at Jackpine Restaurant.

                Surviving Larry is his wife of twenty years, Mrs. Penny Fuhrhop of Harrison, step-son, Tod McCloy and wife Valerie of Midland, Michigan, one granddaughter, Katlyn McCloy of Harrison, one sister, Marion Kuch of Saginaw, Michigan, many nieces, nephews and his beloved cats; Stella and Little Girl. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Renie DeLong.

                A Funeral Mass celebrating Larry will be held Monday, February 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 310 South Broad St., Harrison with Rev. Father J. Marcel Portelli officiating. Visitation will take place Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  at Stocking Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory of Larry may be considered to the Fuhrhop family, in care of: Penny Fuhrhop.
