Lake George Man Arrested for Theft/Carrying Explosives

UPDDATE On 3/25/20 the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges against Scott Jones, 46 of Lake George, Michigan. He was arraigned in 80^th  District Court by Magistrate Steven Worpell on the charges of:

Explosives-Manufacturing / Possession; 4 counts of Felony Firearms With Unlawful Intent; Firearm-Possession by a Felon; Possession of Ammunition by Felon; and Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property; and Habitual Offender Notice -2^nd.   His bond was set at $600,000 cash / surety. He remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.

On 03/23/20 at approximately 10 p.m. Deputies stopped a green colored 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the area of Finley Lake / Cedar Roads in Lincoln Township for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that one of the passengers, a 46 year old man from Lake George, was involved in the possession of a stolen motorcycle that was in the back of the truck. Upon searching the truck Deputies also found a handgun with no serial numbers, a hand grenade, and other explosive making material items. The man was lodged in the Clare County Jail pending review of charges by the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office.

On 03/24/20 Clare County Sheriff Detectives and the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at a home in Roscommon County where a firearm and a large amount of additional explosive making materials were seized. The search warrant in Roscommon was for the inside of the suspect's vehicle he had left at a family member's home. They were not associated with the suspect's activity. He had the items in his truck in their driveway without their knowledge.

The case will be reviewed by the Prosecutor for charges.
