Farwell fell behind early in their Jack Pine Conference Division 2 football game at Meridian Friday. The Eagles could never find an answer for the Mustangs, and they eventually lost the contest 41-7.

“The boys continue to play hard,” head coach Travis Waddell said. “They are adjusting back to the 11-player game and the level of athletes that are on these teams. I am proud of their sportsmanship and their attitudes.”

The Mustangs were able to score on their first possession, getting a Garrett Bergman to Eli Olmstead touchdown pass of 57-yards, with a Brady Bowen extra point making it 7-0. Bergman also threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Logan Holzinger for a 13-0 advantage after one.

The Mustangs stayed hot in the second, scoring two more times to lead 27-0 at the half.

It would turn into a 41-0 hole for Farwell entering the fourth. The Eagles did get a scoring play in the final stanza, as Brent Ellul tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Mitchel.

The Eagles had Brent Ellul lead the way on offense with 87 yards while on defense, Wyatt VanBuskirk led things with 12 tackles and Ethan Morford brought down nine.

For the Mustangs, Bergman was eight-of-18 passing for 166 yards and three touchdowns, with Holzinger making four receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Robbie Edwards was their leading rusher, running 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Farwell (1-5 overall, 0-4 JPC Division 2) hosts 11th ranked Harrison (6-0, 4-0) on Friday. The Hornets are coming off a thrilling 16-15 win last week over Pinconning and have clinched the JPC Division 2 championship.
