Helen Mowl

 Age 89 of Farwell (formally of Owosso) passed away at her home, Friday, November 26, 2021, with her family at her side.  

Cremation has taken place. A celebration in Helen's honor will be held on Sunday June 12, 2022, from 2 pm – 4 pm at the Clare County Historical Society on the corners of Dover and Eberhardt roads, Clare.

Helen was born on January 14, 1932, at home in New Haven Township, to Jerome and Laura (Hartman) Serr.

She graduated from Owosso High School in 1950 and continued her education at Central Michigan University where she earned her teaching certificate. Helen eventually continued her education by going to summer school and night school earning her Bachelor's Degree in 1971.

Helen had been a member of the Michigan Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International, American Association of University Women, MARSP, EAA Chesaning Chapter, The Clare County Historical Society, and The Clare County Collectors Club.

On May 25, 1955, she married Marlin Mowl in Owosso where they made their home. Helen and Marlin had three children, Jane (Earl) Swan, James (Peggy) Mowl, and Jay (Lisa) Mowl. Marlin passed away in 1998.

Helen started her teaching career in country schools. She taught at the German School, a one room schoolhouse, West Branch School, and McCall School, where she was the principal. She taught for Owosso Public Schools at Washington School, retiring after 40 years as an educator in June 1991.

Helen is survived by her children, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and special nephews Mike (Lorna) Kress and Mark (Penny) Kress.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and sister, Jeanette.
