Health Dept. Confirms COVID-19 in Gladwin County

Second case for the Central Michigan District Health Dept.

The Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) was informed of a positive COVID-19 case in Gladwin County resident this evening with no known history of travel. CMDHD will be contacting those who have been in close contact with the patient and they will be assessed for symptoms and monitored appropriately.

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice. An automated self-checker is available to help you make decisions and seek appropriate medical care at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html. Those most at-risk include older adults and those with chronic medical conditions, like heart or lung disease or diabetes. “As this situation continues to evolve, we ask all of our residents to take the appropriate precautions. It’s incumbent upon all of us to help reduce the spread of COVID-19”, said Steve Hall, Health Officer for CMDHD. Precautions include washing hands frequently for at least twenty seconds, covering coughs and sneezes, staying home when sick, avoiding touching your face, avoiding those who are sick and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces. It’s also important to practice social distancing (keep at least six feet between yourself and others).

In addition, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has a hotline number that Michigan residents can call to ask questions about COVID-19. The number is 1-888-535-6136 and is available seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Residents can also send an email to: COVID19@michigan.gov. Emails will be answered seven days a week between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
