Harrison Man Arrested After 50 Mile Pursuit Through 3 Counties

On 04/20/2020, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in Redding Township, Clare County Michigan.  The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit of the vehicle was initiated.

The pursuit lasted for over an hour and covered more than 50 miles and went through Clare, Missaukee, and Osceola Counties.  Clare County Deputies were able to utilize stop sticks in efforts to slow the vehicle.  The vehicle ultimately crashed and the pursuit ended in Osceola County.

A 33-year-old man from Harrison, Robert McAulay, was the driver of the vehicle.  Robert was arrested and transported to the Clare County Jail. 

On 4/21/20 Robert McAulay was arraigned by Magistrate Worpell of the 80th District Court.  Robert was arraigned on charges of controlled substance – possession of methamphetamine / ecstasy, Police Officer fleeing 3rd degree, motor vehicle operation without security, violation of executive order, and habitual offender 4th offense notice.  Robert McAulay had a bond set of $150,000.00 cash / surety. 

The Clare County Sheriff Department was assisted by Osceola County Sheriff Department during the pursuit and arrest.
