Back in the Day-1963

“The Patio” a teen-age center, open-air-style, will hold their opening weekend this Friday night, June 28, and will also be open for teen dancing on Saturday night, June 29.  The dance center, built and to be operated by Mr. and Mrs. Poulton will be open from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 p.m., full chaperoned.

Our congratulations to Curt Murton on the opening of his brand new Texaco Service Station near Loomis, off the US-10 Freeway.

The 1963 Fourth of July Parade at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July Fourth, here is getting top billing around town these days as parade committee members hope to make it the biggest in history. The parade will be led this year by three local young ladies riding horses, Judy Austin, Leigh Stanley, and Bronwyn Hawks, with the Harrison Hornet marching band also “up front.”

A Brand New Parade Route is Selected For the first time in many, many years, the Fourth of July Parade in Harrison will jump off and end in a new location. In what most observers term a “smart move”, the Chamber of Commerce, meeting in special session with parade committee members late last week, approved the new route. The parade formation area will be the ParkFair section of the city which commences at the southern rim of the fairgrounds.  The parade will jump off from the Tom Hecker Real Estate Office onto Business US-27, will continue south to Beech Street and turn west past the State Savings Bank, then will turn south on Second Street past business establishments in that area, turn east on M-61 and south at Business US-27 to the area near the A& W Root Beer Drive-In, where it will disband.
