Farwell Woman Dies in Single Car Crash

On 04/03/2024 at approximately 2:55 pm, Clare Central Dispatch received a call of a traffic crash on W Ludington Dr, at Conlay’s Café, west of the Village of Farwell.  It was reported that a female occupant of the vehicle involved in the crash was trapped inside the vehicle.

Surrey Fire/Rescue, Mobile Medical Response (MMR) and Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.  Surrey Fire/Rescue extricated the female from the vehicle and began life saving efforts.  Despite these efforts, the female was pronounced deceased on scene.

Responding Deputies learned that the driver involved, a 73-year-old Monica Weaver from Farwell, was traveling northwest on W. Ludington Dr. The vehicle she was driving, a 2008 Jeep Liberty, veered off the roadway into the south shoulder of the roadway where it struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle. The Jeep then collided with the café sign causing the vehicle to overturn and come to a rest in the parking lot of Conlay’s Café.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Assisting Agencies were Surrey Fire/Rescue, Mobile Medical Response (MMR), Clare County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clare County Road Commission.
