Farwell had its sights on a road girls basketball non-conference win at Midland Calvary Baptist on Thursday, Dec. 19. The Lady Eagles did play well on defense, but struggled some on offense, and lost the game 36-29.
“We played aggressive defense but went three-of-16 from the free throw line, which really cost us,” head coach Chloe Haring said. “(We had) really great defense and ability to see the court.”
The Eagles faced a 10-2 deficit after the first quarter and trailed 19-11 at the half. Haiden Cassiday drilled three treys in the third, sparking Farwell to a 26-25 lead entering the fourth.
Janelle Fouts hit a three in the final quarter for the team, but that was all the offense they had as Calvary Baptist went out in front and stayed there.
The Eagles had Cassiday finish with 13 points. Fouts netted six, Ivy Frisch netted four and with two apiece was Nora Z., Addyson Thormeier and Jacey Stover.
On Tuesday, Dec. 17 the Eagles came up short against visiting St. Louis in a Jack Pine Conference game, 45-32.
“We struggled defensively with rotation and that cost us the game,” Haring said. “Played decent offensively.”
Cassiday hit a pair of threes in the first quarter and Farwell led 9-5 after one. Another three by Cassiday and five points by Fouts in the second kept the Eagles ahead 19-18 at the half.
Farwell struggled on offense in the third though, netting just three points and St. Louis went in front 34-22 entering the fourth and never looked back.
The Eagles had Cassiday hit four three pointers, and she finished with 13 points. Fouts netted seven points, getting six was Thormeier and Nora Z., Mia Dailey and Frisch all scored two points apiece.
Farwell (1-5 overall, 1-3 JPC) is scheduled to return to the court on Jan. 7, at home against Chippewa Hills. They’ll also play at Beaverton on Jan. 10.
