Two solid wins gave the Farwell baseball team a chance to pick up some hardware on Saturday. The Eagles were hosting the Steve Klinge Memorial Tournament, and they defeated Lake City 8-2 in the opener and they topped Carson City Crystal 13-2 in the next contest.
“I am very proud of how our boys played,” head coach Chris Jorgensen said. “This is a special year to win this tournament due to the fact that this is the first-year baseball has ever been a part of this tournament. This has been only a softball tournament in the past.”
In the win over Lake City, Asher Yarhouse was a perfect four-of-four and Mason Esterline was able to get two hits. Hunter Edlin swiped three stolen bases as well.
The Farwell defense played cleanly, committing just one error.
Against Carson City, Wyatt VanBuskirk was able to get the victory, striking out 10 batters. The defense helped his cause, as they made just one error in this contest as well.
Yarhouse’s big day continued on offense, as he smacked three more hits. Gavin Brown and Dylan Mitchell added two hits apiece.
Farwell also hosted Meridian on Thursday in two Jack Pine Conference games. They came up short against the Mustangs, with scores of 9-5 and 12-6.
The Eagles were at Standish-Sterling on Tuesday, hosted Gladwin on Wednesday and they’ll play a make-up game at Harrison on Monday.
