Dave Rowe Bids City Council Adieu

Harrison City Council Recognizes Contributions, Commitment

Posted

HARRISON – Following a harrowing health episode, Dave Rowe has chosen to resign his position on the Harrison City Council. Rowe made his decision formal at the June 6 Harrison City Council meeting, and in his Mayor’s Report, Stacy Stocking explained the situation to those in attendance.

“Mr. Rowe has had some health issues over the past couple years and had another incident last week,” he said. “I would like to thank my city employees, my fire department, the sheriff’s department and others for assisting Mrs. Rowe and locating Dave, and helping during that incident.

“Which brings me to Dave; in true Dave Rowe nature and being a stand-up person, he decided to not be on City Council anymore because of those issues. So, this will be Dave’s last meeting, and that saddens all of us. Dave has spent 22 years with the City: volunteering his time on Council, volunteering for many, many activities throughout the community – softball games, the Street Fair, you name it. Volunteering lunches for our long meetings and bringing it in out of his own pocket. Donating to the scholarship fund that all of us donate to every year. The Little League team.

“I don’t think Dave misses very many meetings unless he’s deer hunting or has a doctor’s appointment – his attendance has been stellar.”

It was at this point that Council member Angela Kellogg read out the proclamation which had been prepared for Rowe:

City of Harrison

PROCLAMATION

“Whereas, for over 22 years Dave Rowe has shown dedication and worked hard for the citizens of Harrison as an elected official to the City Council;

Whereas, Dave Rowe has been an enthusiastic supporter and volunteer for the Harrison Street Fair;

Whereas, Dave Rowe has served for many years on the Downtown Development Authority board, a supporter of the Harrison Chamber of Commerce and economic growth in the City of Harrison;

Whereas, Dave Rowe has been a positive influence to the City and displayed an optimistic attitude;

Whereas, Dave Rowe has been a teacher to many, in and out of his teaching career, and a good friend to all who know him;

Whereas, we all owe a substantial debt of gratitude to Dave Rowe;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STACY STOCKING, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF HARRISON, DO HEREBY SIGN THIS PROCLAMATION IN HONOR OF Dave Rowe AND HIS SERVICE TO THE CITY.”

The heartfelt comments and emotionally read proclamation were reiterated by a lengthy round of applause and a standing ovation verifying the crowd’s unified agreement with all that had been said, as well as Rowe’s deservedness for such honoring.

At that point, Stocking presented Rowe with a key to the city, saying: “It’s not a key to any lock, but is a true key to the citizens of our community, as well as all of us in the City of Harrison. Dave, thank you. It’s been an honor sitting next to you all these years.”

It is obvious that Dave Rowe will be greatly missed by all the Council members alongside whom he has so selflessly served his beloved community.
