Posted

Extended hours testing is available by appointment at our Mt. Pleasant office on Tuesday, December 3.
Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) is recognizing World AIDS Day by offering free rapid HIV testing appointments for extended hours on Tuesday, December 3, in our Mt. Pleasant office at 2012 E. Preston. Appointments are available from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and can be made by calling 989-314-7570 ext. 1409. Free AIDS awareness red ribbons will be available at all CMDHD offices Monday, December 2 through Friday, December 6, during regular business hours.
“Testing to know your HIV status empowers you to take charge of your health and help prevent the spread of the virus,” said Anna Reetz, CMDHD Community Health Supervisor. According to the 2023 Michigan Statewide HIV Surveillance Report, roughly 1 in 544 Michigan residents is living with HIV. Thanks to improved antiretroviral medications, those diagnosed and treated early for HIV can reduce the amount of virus in their systems to an undetectable and untransmittable level.
CMDHD offers confidential testing for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis C at low or no cost. Safe sex supplies, such as condoms and dental dams, are also available for free. We recommend that anyone who is sexually active be tested regularly for STIs and HIV. STI counseling, treatment, and testing are available without parental consent for those 13 years of age and older. Help stop the spread of HIV by knowing your status and using safer sex practices.
World AIDS Day began in 1988 to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and honor the lives affected by the epidemic. The 2024 theme is “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress.” Every year, agencies from across the world bring attention to the HIV epidemic to increase HIV awareness and knowledge to speak out against HIV stigma.
