Clare Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw With Shepherd

Posted

By BEN MURPHY Cleaver Sportswriter The Clare soccer team welcomed Shepherd for a Jack Pine Conference game on Friday. The weather caused a bit of a disruption during the evening, but the two sides eventually got the game in after a delay, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

The game was scoreless at the half, with the Pioneers scoring the contest’s first goal early in the second half on a boot by Sergio James. Luke Cox was credited with an assist.

Josh Zeilinger was in goal and made nine saves to help keep his squad in the game.

On Wednesday they took on JPC foe Bullock Creek on the road, and they dropped that contest on a score of 5-0.

Zeilinger was able to make 10 saves.

“We struggled a bit as they were simply more physical than us,” head coach Jim Bond said.

On Monday, Sept. 16, the Pioneers dropped a JPC contest at home against Standish-Sterling, in a 1-0 game.

Zeilinger was able to track down nine saves in the game, but the Pioneer offense could never quite get going.

“We played well, but just couldn't finish in our offensive third of the field,” Bond said.

Clare (2-7-1 overall) hosted Pinconning on Monday, was at Ovid Elsie on Wednesday and will host Ogemaw Heights on Monday, Sept. 30.
