CHARLES “CHUCK” MILTON ULCH

Charles “Chuck” Milton Ulch age 80 of Harrison passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at McLaren Bay Special Care Hospital, Bay City, Michigan. Charles was born August 8, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan the son of Ortes and Della (Rees) Ulch. Chuck graduated from Harrison High School in 1960. During high school, Chuck worked for his dad who owned and operated Ulch Sign Company of Harrison. Chuck enjoyed working with his dad and brothers where he learned many skills from sign painting to fixing various machines. In 1962, Chuck moved to Lansing, Michigan where he worked at Oldsmobile for over thirty-two years. While working at Oldsmobile, Chuck met a group of snowmobile enthusiasts who took many trips to Wyoming to do mountain riding. Also, they spent many weeks riding throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. They have remained life-long friends; however, the sledding days have turned into camping trips.

Chuck returned to Harrison in 1994, moving from Dimondale, Michigan. Mr. Ulch is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2235 of Harrison, Antique Snowmobile Club of America and Top of Lake Snowmobile Club and Museum of Naubinway, Michigan.  Chuck’s passion was restoring and riding antique Ski-Doo sleds. In the Antique Snowmobile group, he was known as “Mr. Ski-Doo”. During the winter, he spent weeks riding snowmobiles, then he headed to his home in Florida, where he exchanged the snow and cold for sand and sun. Chuck was passionate about deer hunting, as he spent over sixty years hunting with the same group and same location. He also enjoyed his daily dart games with his brother Deke, where they would share good conversation, a cup of coffee and a nutty doughnut.

Surviving Mr. Ulch is his wife, M. Sue St. Clair of Harrison, one son, Curt Ulch and wife Marcia of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, one daughter Cheryl (Rick) Walker of New Smyrna Beach, FL., five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, B.G. “Deke” Ulch of Harrison, one sister, Bonnie Shue of Lakeland, Florida, a brother in law, Jim Atkinson and wife Becky of Harrison, sister in law, Barbara Schneider and husband Dick of Buda, Texas, plus many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mr. Ulch was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Chris Ulch and three brothers: Jack Ulch, S. Dee Ulch and Norman Ulch.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. Ulch will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with Mr. Chris Vogt officiating. A time of sharing will be held Friday, June 3, 2022, from 5:00-8:00p.m. at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison and again on Saturday, June 5, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Ulch may be considered to the Donors Choice.
