Camo Ball, a Gathering That Cares

Posted

While it had all the elements of a typical fundraiser with silent and live auctions, a 50/50 raffle, and other money-making games, the 2nd Annual Camo Ball Redneck Gathering held Saturday was different. It was a come as you are, throw on your best camo T-shirt and hat casual gathering to benefit children’s charities in Harrison.
Even the meal was laid back barbecue-style: hotdogs, chili, potato salad, coleslaw and all the fixings with a camo and hunter’s orange cake for dessert.
The Ball is the brainchild of a handful of businesses that wanted to create a fun event to raise money for existing charities and called themselves Harrison Cares About Kids. Based on the amount paid for auction items, the attendees truly were willing to support the cause. More than $8,500 was raised which will be given to this year’s chosen charities: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Baby Pantry, and the youth program at the Harrison Sportsman Club.
