Bonnie Delores Curtis “Granny” of Harrison, Michigan Formerly of Bath, Michigan

Age 78, passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, September 11, 2022. Bonnie was born on August 10, 1944, in Argillite, Kentucky to the late John and Eva (Justice) Forbes.

Bonnie grew up in the country hills of Kentucky which instilled her love for the outdoors. After graduating high school, she met the love of her life Ross Curtis, and they soon put down roots in Michigan. After having their two girls, Bonnie attended Michigan State University and earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.

Her life’s work and passion were in preschool education and working with young children. She had a magical way about her that touched every child she worked with. Her kindness, gentleness, patient, and loving ways inspired her fellow teachers and all those around her to be the best person they could be.

Bonnie was a lifelong learner who strived to discover as much as possible. If she didn’t know the answer, she wanted to and would research until she found it. This meant that she often had an answer or remedy for everything – whether how to get a baby to fall asleep, getting your house clean with natural ingredients, medical anecdotes, or identifying the random bird in your backyard. Any time someone had a problem, they called Bonnie (Granny to her loved ones) for the answer.

Bonnie’s greatest joy was being with her family – especially her great grandbabies. Bonnie and Ross raised a strong, loving family together and because of this, her two daughters, three granddaughters, and six great grandchildren, are all very close. The family enjoyed various trips throughout the years and making their annual Christmas candy and buckeyes to share with friends and family. This tradition will be carried on in Bonnie’s honor.

Bonnie will be greatly missed – especially her forehead rubs, loving advice, and her silliness. She had an infectious laugh and positive outlook on life, regardless of the circumstances. She saw the good in every person she met and was warm, kind, and accepting to all. She was a very special lady.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Forbes, and sister Vera Logan. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ross C. Curtis; her sisters Betty Miller and Zelma Forbes; her two daughters, Teressa (Don) Denning and Brenda (Eric Leiby) Barton; grandchildren, Ashley (Ian) McVaugh-Bailey, Brittney (Jake) Holbrook, and Lauren (Evan) Henfling; great-grandchildren, Grant and Maverick McVaugh-Bailey, Evie and Shay Holbrook, and Demi and Nolan Henfling, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

A funeral service has been held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Residential Home Health and Hospice in memory of Bonnie and the compassionate care they provided her and her family.
