BETTY LOU BROOKS

                Betty Lou Brooks 81 of rural Harrison passed away at her home on Monday, August 26, 2019. Betty was born April 2, 1938 in Edenville Township, Midland County, Michigan, the daughter of Douris Arnold Hund and Laura May (Inman) Hund. Betty graduated from Coleman Community High School, Coleman, Michigan in 1956. Betty was united in marriage to Mr. John Frank Brooks on July 6, 1957 in Hope Township, Midland County. Mrs. Brooks had resided in Harrison since 1957, moving from Coleman.

                Betty enjoyed crocheting, sewing, painting and grafting apple trees. She also enjoyed raising chickens, gardening, caning, baking, cooking and grooming her yard and flower gardens. Many neighboring farmers will remember Betty’s skill at making seats and seat covers for their tractors over the years.

                Surviving Mrs. Brooks is her loving husband of sixty-two years, Mr. John F. Brooks of Harrison, four daughters; Darlene Brooks-Batson of Harrison, Laurie Schug and husband Gary of Gladwin, Michigan, Lois Bruce and husband Steve of Elk Rapids, Michigan and Beth Weakland and husband Brian of Longs, South Carolina, two grandsons; Johnathon Schug and Brandon Bruce, step granddaughter, Danika Slocum and husband Brandon, two step-great granddaughters; Emma and Alaina, one sister, Kathleen Merrill and husband Gary of Coleman, brother in-law, Steve Dennis of Harrison, plus many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents, her son, James Jay Brooks, her son in-law, Malcolm L. Batson Jr., one sister, Esther May Dennis and one brother, Wayne Hund.

                A Memorial Gathering honoring Mrs. Brooks will be held Friday, September 20, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory of Betty may be considered to the Brooks Family, in care of John F. Brooks.
