ARTHUR LAWRENCE MCVICAR

DECEMBER 11, 2021- FEBRUARY 7, 1951

Arthur Lawrence “Nitch” McVicar passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 11 at the age of 70.  Nitch was born February 7, 1951 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.  He was joined in holy matrimony to Lula Rose Cornell on May 23rd, 1970, and for 51 years stood by her side through good times and bad, through ups and downs and through thick and thin.

She survives him along with his three children:  Dan McVicar of Harrison; Craig (Kim) McVicar of Harrison and Mindy (Danny) Smith of North Porter.  His dedication to family will forever live on through his children and his six grandchildren:  Marlee and Taelor McVicar; Summer, Allison and Truman Smith; and Kenny Haskell.  He is also survived by brothers Gregory (Marla) McVicar of Harrison; Randy (Brenda) McVicar of Marshall, Texas; and Kathy McVicar of Harrison.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Candy Marie; parents Marvin and Phyllis McVicar; brother Timothy Loeding and good friend and partner in crime, Cliff VanValkenburg.

For 25 years Nitch worked at Simpson Industries of Gladwin as a machine operator, retiring in 1999.  He enjoyed his work, especially taking joy in the relationships he built through years of providing for his family.  Seldom a stranger – as least for long – to those he encountered, Nitch treated everyone with respect as if your words and thoughts, regardless of how trivial they may have seemed, were of the utmost importance.

He took great joy in fishing and could often be found on a lake somewhere trying to land his greatest catch or leave with an even greater story.  His fondness for fishing was only surpassed by his love for attending his children and grandchildren’s events.  Seldom did distance or circumstance keep him from a baseball or softball field, a basketball court or football field, a choir concert or theatre performance.  Those that knew him well, knew that he wore his Harrison High swag with pride and provided two generations of athletes with inspirational game candy and dipping sticks.  He could also be found giving his pre-game solute to the football team.  Most importantly, he supported Harrison athletics regardless of the season, regardless of who was playing, and regardless of won and loss records.

A celebration of life dinner will take place on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at John J. Carton Lodge #436, 230 East Main Street, Harrison. Family and friends wanting to express their condolences to the McVicar family, are encouraged to attend.
