An old glimpse at the Parkview Tourist Cabins and Shell Service Station

Posted

A postcard of the Shell service station at the Parkview Tourist Cabins on the corner of Townline Lake Road and US-27. In recent memory the property was a known for many years as a weekend flea market.

A clip from the front page of the Clare County Cleaver in 1947 features the Parkview Tourist Cabins and the owners Herman and Mary Bolz. They were both born in Germany and came to the United States in the 1930s.  After living in Genesee county, they moved to Harrison in the 40s to run the station and tourist cabins.  Herman died in 1958 and Mary moved to Gladwin where she died in 1987. Their final resting place is in the Maple Grove Cemetery across the street from their former business.
