ALLEN EDWIN TOMES SR.

Allen Edwin Tomes Sr. 81 of Harrison, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, August 2, 2019. Allen was born May 15, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Edwin H. and Lillian (Surini) Tomes. On June 23, 1956, Allen was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ms. Patricia Ann DuVal.

Allen had resided in Harrison since 1970, moving from Royal Oak, Michigan, after purchasing Camp Withii. Allen commuted to the Detroit area for many years, working at a tool and Die company during the week and would return home to Harrison on weekends to assist his wife and children with the operations of Camp Withii. Eventually, Allen became a full-time owner and operator of Camp Withii until his death. Allen professed his faith for Jesus Christ to several people throughout the years. Mr. Tomes was steadfast in his commitment to his family and was a very able husband and father. Allen had the natural ability to identify people in need, and assisted many with housing, food and clothing. Mr. Tomes family fondly remember him as always centering traveling, family activities and Sunday visits and phone calls around them, as he put his family first and foremost. Allen enjoyed fishing, hunting, visiting the family cottage on Drummond Island and vacationing in Florida.

Surviving Mr. Tomes is his wife and best friend of sixty-three years, Mrs. Patricia Ann Tomes of Harrison, three sons; Chuck Tomes and wife Carol of Plant City, Florida, James Tomes of Harrison and Allen Tomes Jr. and wife Emily of Holland, Michigan, his father, Edwin H. Tomes of Olive Branch, Mississippi, six grandchildren; Megan Tomes, Brooke Edgemon and husband Matt, Levi Tomes and wife Kris, Michelle Tomes, Allen Tomes III and wife Emily and Amanda Lyn Tomes, two great-grandchildren; Lily Edgemon and William Edgemon, two sisters; Cindy Fields and husband Michael of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Quinea Rickard of Newark, Ohio, three brothers; Gary (Denna) Tomes and family of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Mark (Julie) Tomes and family of Walled Lake, Michigan and Bob (Diane) Falsetti and family of Columbia, South Carolina, daughter in law, Luci Tomes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Mr. Tomes was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Tomes, one son, Thomas Tomes, one sister, Carol Tomes and one brother, Tom Tomes.

Funeral services celebrating Mr. Tomes will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church, 3088 Mostetler Road, Harrison, Michigan 48625, with Pastor Tim Tanner officiating. Visitation will take place Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Stocking Funeral Home and Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at First Baptist Church.
