Clare County Sheriff Dept Press Release
On Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 04:16 a.m. the Clare County Central Dispatch received a request from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff Office to be on the look out for a red in color 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. This vehicle was reported taken by the owner’s 12 year old son. Clare County Sheriff Deputies were able to locate this vehicle on south bound US-127 near west bound US-10 in the township of Grant. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, and apprehended the 12 year old driver, who was alone in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, Deputies located a 12-gauge pump style shotgun with numerous rounds of ammunition for the shotgun, as well as a small amount of marijuana.
The 12 year old was transported to the Clare County Sheriff Office where he was held until his parents picked him up. A report requesting charges for use of a motor vehicle without authority but without intent to steal (joy riding), operating a motor vehicle without a license, carrying a concealed weapon as well as minor in possession of marijuana was sent to the Prosecutors Office.
