Quilt of Valor Awarded

Posted

Fredrick Priest of Harrison was recently awarded a Quilt of Valor for his military service at American Legion Post 404 in Harrison. Priest is an American Legion member, as well as being a member of the Honor Guard, and the awarding was done Dec. 13 at the Honor Guard Christmas Party.

Priest served in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1987, serving at Fort Ord in California and Camp Long in Korea. His MOS [military occupational specialty] was 52D Power Generation Equipment Repair/Operator. He was honorably discharged as a Spec 4 (E4).

Priest's quilt was a special signature quilt, where individual star blocks are signed for veterans, some with messages of gratitude. Many of these blocks were signed by members of Post 404. One special block was signed by Post 404's late commander Patrick Loafman, who passed earlier this year. Pat's wife, RaeAnn, assisted Judy Tritten, QOVF volunteer presenter, in awarding the quilt.

To nominate your favorite active duty military member or veteran to receive a quilt in 2024, go to QOVF.org. Quilts of Valor is celebrating 20 years, having presented almost 370,000 quilts.
