News From Your Sheriff- December 2023

Posted

Welcome to December, Clare County

To date, we are at 34,777 incidents for this year in Clare County. The Clare County Sheriff’s Office has handled 20,293 of those incidents. We currently have 97 people in our jail: 51 local, two Michigan Department of Corrections, and 41 federal detainees.

This past week we had the Michigan Department of Corrections Jail Inspections Team inspect our facility. This is a yearly inspection of all aspects of the jail. I’m proud to say that we passed the inspection 100%. Congratulations to the entire corrections team and Lt. Bryan Dunn for leading them.

We would like to congratulate Christian Cooper who will be graduating from the Delta Police Academy. Christian was sponsored by the Clare County Sheriff’s Office for the fall academy at Delta. He will start his Field Training time immediately following, which will last between 12 and 14 weeks. We would also like to congratulate Aaron McLearen for passing the physical entry test in order to start the winter academy at Delta. Aaron is currently one of our dispatchers and will be leaving for the academy in January.

We currently have one in training in Dispatch and are looking for applicants for another position in our Central Dispatch. We are also looking for a couple of corrections officers for our jail. If you are interested in the field of corrections, you can obtain information and an application online. If you are interested in applying for the Central Dispatch position, you can go to www.clareco.net and then to “Departments”, Central Dispatch, and employment opportunities.

We will be receiving four new Dodge Durangos soon for our Road Patrol. Our aging fleet is in need of being replaced. We work with a leasing company so it’s not so much of a cost up front and with a program to replace patrol units on a 3-year rotation. We are scheduled to receive another five patrol units around March, with one of those going to the City of Harrison contract. I want to thank the Clare County Board of Commissioners for their continuous support in this matter.

We here at the Clare County Sheriff’s Office want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Spend some good time with your family and friends over the holiday season. We will be here if you need us.

Stay Safe – Stay Strong

GOD Bless

Sheriff John S Wilson
