LOIS KIMMEL

   Lois Kimmel, 92 years, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend was called home to the healing arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 in Gladwin Pines Nursing Home.
   Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Laura Lee Strawser will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 9 A.M. - 12 Noon & 4-9 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.
   Lois was born on February 4, 1918 in Owosso, MI, the daughter of William and Myrtie Archer. She attended Owosso Schools. Lois married Wayne Kimmel and they lived most of their married years in Owosso, retiring and moving to West Branch, where they enjoyed many friends and retirement activities there as well.
   Lois worked in retail at Morris Dime Store, DM Christian, Kresge and Cunningham Drugs. She attended the Owosso Church of Christ in her youth and most important to her were her faith, family, & friends. Lois was very active in her community, known by all for her excellent cooking and baking, she assisted in numerous charitable projects from 1985-the late 1990’s with FASA, Families Against Substance Abuse of Shiawassee County. Lois enjoyed quilting, reading, shopping and babysitting her grandchildren in Owosso. She also enjoyed traveling on vacations with family, visiting family, and especially having family and friends visit her. She took long exercise walks with her friends for many years after returning to Owosso in 1985, following the death of her beloved husband. Lois also enjoyed watching TV, among her favorite not to be missed programs were: Judge Judy, Lawrence Welk and The Gaithers. A special pleasure for her, with her husband, was traveling to locations in northern Michigan and listening to her son Bob play as a featured guitarist and vocalist in bands throughout the years. She had special deep caring love for everyone in her family, both near and far. Lois will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her for her sincere, caring, love for all she touched with her life.
She is survived by her son Robert Kimmel of Harrison, MI, daughter Sharon and James VanPelt of Owosso, MI, grandchildren; Sharla Kimmel, Karla & James Morche, Deann & Ray Huntington, Laurie & Marc Rayborn, Terry & Kimberly Kimmel, Jeffery & Lynn VanPelt, Jodi & Michael Kingsbury, Jennifer VanPelt, Dennis & Sharon Powell, Danny Powell, Roger Powell, and Randy Powell, Debbie Powell, great-grandchildren; Dale High, Robby & Erin High, Amanda & Brandon Dedafoe, James & Jeremy Morche, Victoria & Morgan Kimmel, Adam and Ashley Kingsbury, Karl and Jamie VanPelt, great-great-grandchildren; Kayla Dedafoe, Abigale & Kaylee High. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, 2 daughters; Beverly Ann Powell and baby Nancy Kimmel, 4 grandchildren, great-grandchild Ashley Kimmel, daughters-in-law; Carol Kimmel & Joyce Kimmel-Jones, son-in-law Bud Powell, 2 sisters; Violet and Bob DeVoe and Clara & William Finch, 2 brothers; Thomas & Dorothy Archer and Robert & Marie Archer. Lois also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and many long time friends including; Ann Turner and Edith Brown of Owosso, and Oscar and Alice Rau of West Branch.

RUTH WOJTYSIAK

   Ruth Wojtysiak went home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at age 96. Predeceased by her husband, Sigmund; son, John & son-in-law, Larry Stid. She is survived by her children, Mary Stid & Joseph (Alice) Wojtysiak; 4 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren.
   A Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, 11 AM in the Chapel at St. Ann’s Home (1500 Portland Avenue). Interment was held privately at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lansing, Mi. GEORGE PLANKEY

   George Edward Plankey, age 82, of South Lyon; passed away peacefully at home with his family on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2010. He fought a courageous battle with heart disease and with a positive attitude, a strong will and a great sense of humor. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in post-war Japan. He enjoyed playing independent basketball, was a semi pro softball player in Oregon, enjoyed ocean fishing in Florida and he was always there when a friend needed a helping hand. He retired from the Operating Engineers Local 324 after 50 years of faithful service. He always carried a lunch bucket and never missed a day of work. He was commander of Lt. Edmond Gamble Post 4626 in Detroit three times, was 2nd District Commander and devoted his adult life helping the veterans and service organizations. He was a lifetime member and had recently joined VFW post 2502 in South Lyon.
   He is survived by his loving wife Doris Mae (Antilla) of 61 years. They fell in love the day they met and never stopped loving each other and always will. A classic love story. Surviving are two sisters: Mary (Jerry Joki), Carol (Jerry Ekdahl) of Champion, MI and one brother James of Ishpeming, MI. He was a loving father to his two sons: Gene (Karen), of Republic, MI and James (Judi) of Salem, MI. Grandkids: Jeffrey, Kristopher, Kim, James Jr., and Tammy. Great grandkids; Jessica, Kristen, Jordan, Mya, Kaitlyn, Kayla and Leslie. The kids enjoyed calling him “Pumpkin”. George was preceded in death also by a brother John of Champion, MI.

SHAWN PATRICK GUTHRIE

   Shawn Patrick Guthrie, 30, of Lake, met his mother at Heaven’s gate on Friday, February 26, 2010. He passed away unexpectedly at Mid Michigan Medical Center, Clare. Shawn was born April 16, 1979. He attended Farwell High School and graduated in 2000.
   He was preceded in death by his mother Earlynn Brandon. He is survived by his father Roger Guthrie of Fort Worth, Texas, sister, Chrystle (Paul) Mercer of Lake, brothers, Justin (Tracy) Brandon of Lake, Todd (Shannon) Brandon of Lake, Roger Guthrie II of Fort Worth, Texas, nieces; Kalynn, Kirsten and Raeann and nephews; Kyle, Dylan and Dakota.
   Cremation has taken place and a Wake was held on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at a family home. Arrangements were entrusted with Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison.

LYN MARIE BEAVERS

   Lyn Marie Beavers, age 53, of Harrison, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Woodland Hospice and Morey Bereavement Center in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She was born the daughter of Hobert Dale and Marjorie Lee (Baker) Beavers on February 20, 1957, in Clare, Michigan.
