ELAINE M. NIEMI
Elaine Maraine Niemi,
age 87, of Harrison, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, December 24,
2008 at the Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center in Clare, Michigan. She
was born the daughter of Edward and Lillian (Ostrich) Ellefson on April
01, 1921 in Madison, Minnesota. On July 17, 1940, she was united in
marriage to Waino Niemi in Ironwood, Michigan. Together, they made their
home in Harrison. Elaine was a member of the First Congregational Church
of Harrison, and was active with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. In her spare
time, she enjoyed gardening, going fishing, and quilting. She had also
quilted several quilts for the First Congregational Church Women's
Fellowship Christmas Bazaar. Her greatest-pastimes were spent spending
time with her family and friends. Mrs. Niemi had lived in the Harrison
area since 1960, where she had moved from Bergland, Michigan.
She is survived by her husband, Waino, of Harrison; her two sons,
Don and Marguerite Niemi also of Harrison and Jack and Kimberly Niemi of
Saginaw, Michigan; her five grandchildren: Debbie Niemi, Denise Johnson,
Beth (Gene) Corlew, Jennifer Hill, and Jeron Bushong; eight
great-grandchildren: Kasey Graves, Kalynn Graves, Trisha Graves, Cassidy
Corlew, Olivia Corlew, Kameron Hill, Whitney Johnson, and Morgan
Johnson; her great-great granddaughter, Brianna Graves; and a
daughter-in-law, Jeri (Ron) Bushong, both of Harrison. She was preceded
in death by her parents, a son, Rene Niemi, who passed away in 1977, and
her two brothers, Eugene and Vern Ellefson.
Funeral services took place on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 2:00
P.M. from the Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison with Reverend Gerald
Baxter officiating. Burial took place in the Maple Grove Cemetery in

GARY JOE STOCKING
(November 13, 1941 - December 30, 2008)

Gary Joe Stocking,
age 67, of AuTrain, Michigan, formerly of Harrison, Michigan, passed
away suddenly on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at his home.
Gary was a licensed funeral director for forty-three years. He was
the former owner of Stocking Funeral Home, Inc. of Harrison. Gary and
his wife Sharon along with their son Stacy have served the families of
the Harrison community since 1965.
He was a member of the Michigan Funeral Director’s Association,
National Funeral Director’s Association, National Rifle Association,
American Motorcycle Association, a charter member of the Marble Arms
Knife and Gun Club of Rapid River Michigan, and served as the past
Assistant Director of Superior Chapter H.O.G. #1523 of Marquette. Mr.
Stocking also served on the Board of Director for the Pardee Foundation
of Clare, the Clare County Community Foundation, the Clare Hospital
Planning Commission, and the Clare County Building Authority.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Butcher) Stocking, of AuTrain,
his son, Stacy and wife Karen Stocking of Harrison, a granddaughter,
Hilary Vasher, his mother, Leona Stocking of Harrison, two brothers:
Steve and wife Bernadette Stocking also of Harrison, Rod and wife Elaine
Stocking of Perry, Michigan, sister-in-law, Connie and husband John
Mlinarcik of Northville, Michigan, four nephews and one niece. Gary was
preceded in death by his father, Joe C. Stocking.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 2:00
P.M. from the Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison with Reverend Doctor
James Harwood officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillcrest
Cemetery in Harrison. Friends may visit with the family from 7:00 – 9:00
P.M. at the Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison on Friday, January 02,
2009, and on Saturday from 12:00- 9:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may

DAWN IVY ACKETT
Dawn Ivy Ackett,
age 44, of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the
Tendercare Nursing Home in Clare. She was born on September 16, 1964 in
Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Donald C. and Phyllis (LaChapelle)
Ackett. Dawn had been a resident of Harrison for the past 25 years.
She is survived by her sister, Donna Miller and husband Gary and
two nephews, Kyle and Jacob Kovacs, all from Ft. Wayne, Indiana and two
close friends: Kathy Daigneaulp and Don Stevenson. Dawn was preceded in
death by her parents.

CHRISTOPHER ALLEN GARY
Christopher Allen Gary, 41, of
Harrison, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008 at his home. Christopher
was born January 15, 1967 in Hillsdale, Michigan, the son of Michael
Gale and Linda Sue (Smith) Gary.
Christopher had resided in Harrison since 2006, coming from
Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Gary enjoyed assembling and collecting model
cars, listening to music and spending time outdoors.
Surviving is his mother, Linda Sue DeBarr of Harrison, his
daughter, Sheree Gary of St. Louis, Michigan, his fiancee, Peggy Casteel
of Harrison, a half brother, Duane Gary of Jonesville, Michigan, a half
sister, Vickie also of Jonesville, one uncle, Maurice Smith and wife
Barbara of Harrison and one nephew, Reese Smith and wife Lynn of
Milford, Michigan, and grandmother Margaret Smith. Mr. Gary was preceded
in death by his father.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.

officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial

RICHARD ELLIS MOULDER
Richard Ellis Moulder, age 69, of
Harrison, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at his
sister's home in Harrison. He was born the son of Ellis Arlo and Helen
Lucille (Loreff) Moulder on August 13, 1939 in Lansing, Michigan. Mr.
Moulder had worked as a self-employed handyman. In his spare-time, he
enjoyed woodworking, making crafts, and fishing. Richard had lived in
the Harrison area since 1996, where he had moved from Bath, Michigan.
He is survived by his two sons, William John Moulder of East
Lansing, Michigan and Ricky Ellis (Kari) Moulder also of Lansing,
Michigan; a sister, Joyce Elaine (Ronald) Shipley of Harrison; six
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents, a brother, Michael Dennis Moulder and a sister, Evelyn
Marie Roberts.
In keeping with Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place. A
memorial service will take place this coming spring. Funeral
arrangements were entrusted with the Stocking Funeral Home of Harrison.

LYLE SWANSON
The trumpets blared, the bells rang loudly, and the Angels sang, for
today is Fred's new birthday. This is the day Fred was reborn into
Heaven. On Monday, December 29, 2008, Major Fredrik Lyle Swanson,
age 46, was called home to be with our Lord. Fred was born September 13,
1962 to Lyle and Doris (Elenbaas) Swanson in Lansing. On October 2, 1982
Fred married Candy Burgess at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare.
The two shared 27 years of happiness. The most important things in
Fred's life are his wife Candy and his family; they were blessed with
four beautiful children. Fred was a Major in the U.S. Army with 13 years
of duty that took him around the world. He left the military in 1992, to
spend more time with his family. He also worked as the purchasing
manager for Mid Michigan Visiting Nurses. Fred coached Little League and
was a past President of the Optimist Club of Clare.
Fred is survived by his loving wife Candy and their children Nikki
(Cori) Wolfgang of Farwell, Jennifer (Travis) Roth of St. Charles, Joe
Swanson and Alex Swanson, both of Farwell. Their grandchildren will
always remember their Papa; Mackenzie Swanson, Ethan Roth, Megan
Wolfgang, and Caleb Roth. Parents Lyle and Doris Swanson of Farwell;
father-in-law Ernest R. Burgess, Sr. of Farwell; brother Tim (Jen)
Swanson of Mt. Pleasant; his nephew Timmy Swanson; sister-in-law Kathy
(Rob) Bailey of Farwell, brother-in-law Mike (Janice) Burgess; Teresa
and Ed Mackie. Fred was preceded in death by their little Angel,
mother-in-law Kathleen M. Burgess, brother-in-law Harry R. Burgess,
Ernest R. Burgess, Jr., and Robert R. Carroll; a sister in-law Patricia
A. Burgess. Fred's smiling face, loving hands and comedic wit will be
greatly missed by all.
Services for Fred took place on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at
the St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Father Joseph Fix officiating.
Visitation for Fred took place on Thursday, January 1 from 2-5 and 7-9
P.M. at the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Burial will
take place in the Surrey Twp. Cemetery in Farwell. If you are unable to
