EDWARD "BUZZ" PACKARD
Edward F. "Buzz"
Packard, age 83, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Gladwin
Pines Nursing Home in Gladwin. He was born on September 28, 1924, the
son of Edward F. and Erna M. (Koppen) Packard Sr. in Berkley, Michigan.
Buzz proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII.
He was awarded the Purple Heart with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in
September 1945. Buzz married Elizabeth Elenore Carveth on June 10, 1950
who passed away in 1962. He then married Jean Louise Ward Carlstrom who
passed away in 1992. He retired from the Southfield Fire Department in
1965 and moved his family to Harrison. Since moving to Harrison, he
worked as a well driller, heavy equipment operator, school bus driver
and most recently as the Hardware Manager for Quik Stop.
Buzz was extremely proud to be a life member of the V.F.W. Post
#1075, D.A.V., Masonic Lodge of Berkley, Michigan, Military Order of
Purple Hearts, and the Hatton Hills Hunt Club and a member of the
American Legion Post #404. He also enjoyed to hunt, fish, and golf,
travel, build model airplanes and spend time with his family and
friends.
Buzz is survived by four sons, Edward F. Packard III and wife Janet
of Lewiston, MI., John Carlstrom of Harrison, Kelly Packard of Boyne
City, MI., Mark Carlstrom and wife Tamara of Harrison, two daughters,
Jayne LaPointe and husband Mike of Thom Hill, TN., Colleen Brooks and
husband Richard of Advance, NC., one sister, Evalyne Onsted of Onsted,
MI., 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews and numerous friends.
Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Erna Packard,
his sister June Haney, her husband Robert Haney, their children Scott
Haney and Beth Haney, a brother-in-law Ross Onsted, his son Gary Onsted
and a daughter-in-law, Michele Carlstrom.
A memorial service was held for Buzz on Monday, January 21, 2008 at
Stocking Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Baxter officiating. The V.F.W.
Post #1075, Harrison, conducted veteran's honors. Buzz's remains will be
interred at the St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Those

JAMES RICHARD HAMP
James “Jimmy” R. Hamp,
charter fisherman and avid sportsman, passed away on November 4, 2007 in
Juneau, Alaska, he was 69 years old.
Friends and family fondly remember Jim as energetic and "full of
it". he is also remembered by many in Alaska as a testament to the
anti-smoking campaign. Even as emphysema painfully took his life he was
featured in "Healthbeat", a publication from the Southeast Alaska
Regional Health Consortium (searhc) that focuses on current health

Jim was born on April 22, 1938 to James D. and Corinna Hamp and
grew up in Harrison, Michigan. After graduating from Harrison high
school, he attended Central Michigan University and Michigan State
University. He then joined the army but was fortunate that he was never
sent to war.
He returned to Harrison to take over the family business "Hamp's
Sportsman Center." He married Shirley D. Crane in 1964. They managed the
sporting goods store together for many years before moving to Alaska.
Jim and Shirley moved to Alaska in 1982, initially settling in Anchorage
and shortly thereafter finding their final home in Haines. They ran a
successful fishing charter business "Jim's Jaunts" for many years. While
his extensive knowledge of fishing was part of their success, Jim was
also known as a charter captain that made fishing fun - regardless of
the catch of the day.
Jim was preceded in death by loving wife, Shirley, in October of
2004. He is survived and missed by two (step) daughters, Janet Mehl of
Juneau, Alaska; Laurie (Dave) Weldon of Bend, Oregon; granddaughters,
Carrie Weldon of Houghton, Michigan; Brandie (Jim, Nicole and James)
Stickler of Haines, Alaska; sister, Judith (Bill) Johnson of Lansing,
Michigan; brother, Jeff Hamp and step-mother Doris Hamp of Harrison,
Michigan. He is sadly missed by many loyal friends in both Alaska and
Michigan. |
RALPH JOHNSON
Ralph Johnson was born on April 11,
1915 in Ingersoll, Ontario Canada as the son of Ed and Rose Johnson. He
was one of 6 children, with 4 sisters surviving; Pauline Omerod, Marie
Shand, Margaret Skillings, and Phyllis Chase. On April 13, 1940 he wed
N. Marie Cooper. Together they raised 3 children, son Ralph "Doug"
Johnson of Brooklyn, Michigan and daughters Dianne (husband Norman)
Mercier of Hartland and Mary Marcucci of White Lake.
While living in Livonia he worked at various companies as a Tool
and Die maker. He also became a development engineer for the Algonac
Foundry before retiring in 1973. He loved sailing and was a member of
the Pontiac Yacht Club in Keego Harbor where he raced sail and iceboats.
He moved to Harrison, after retiring, where he was a founding
member of the 20 Lakes Antique Engine and Tractor Club. He served as
Treasurer for 9 years and remained a life member of the club. He loved
working on steam engines and built many models, which he displayed. He
also enjoyed woodcarving and favored sailboats and horses.
Ralph died on January 17, 2008 at the age of 92. He leaves behind
children, 4 sisters, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2
great- great grandchildren. Preceeding him in death was his wife (Marie)
and one brother (Pat).
A memorial service will be held in Harrison, Michigan in June.

RONALD W. BEDELL
Ronald Walter Bedell, age 71 of
Harrison passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008. He was born March 25,
1936 in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Walter and Helen (Reid) Bedell.
Ronald married Doris Gerstenberger on June 18, 1955 in Bay City,
Michigan.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bedell worked for American Hoist in
Bay City and Joe Nicefield Construction in Harrison. He especially
enjoyed salmon fishing.
Surviving Ronald is his loving wife, Doris Bedell, son, Ronald
Bedell, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Auburn, Michigan, daughter, Connie
Bissonette and her husband Andy of Spring, Texas, sisters, Maxine
Johnroe of Harrison and Susan Trumble and her husband Clifford of Bay
City, Michigan, grandchildren, Katelyn and Megan. He was preceded in
death by his parents and granddaughter, Andrea.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2007 at
11:00 a.m. at the Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison, 989-539-7810, with
Elder Dale Beavers officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00
p.m. and the Midland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held
Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions

MELODIE A. HENRY
July 29, 1953 ~ January 14, 2008
Melodie A. Henry, age 54, of West
Branch, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at Bay Regional Medical
Center in Bay City. Melodie had lived in West Branch since 1989,
formerly of Midland and Harrison. She was a member of the Church of the
Latter Day Saints of Harrison.
Melodie is survived by her husband, Clem Henry of West Branch, son;
Todd (Wendy) Henry of West Branch and Jason (Corinna) Henry of Midland,
6 grandsons, Justin, Timothy, Todd Jr., Tyler, Trey and Trent, her
mother, Vera Williamson of West Branch, sisters; Bonnie (Don) Baldridge
of Melvindale and Lois (Jeff) Thompson of Rose City, her nephew, Joshua
Thompson, nieces, Megann Thompson and Alyssa Thompson and her mother in
law, Violet Henry of Harrison. She was preceded in death by her father,
Art Williamson, her brother, Art Williamson Jr., and her father in law,
Maurice Henry.
Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch
was on Friday, January 18, 2008 from 2-9 p.m. The Funeral Service was
held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
