DONALD L. BARBER
Donald L. Barber,
85, of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Central
Michigan Community Hospital of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Mr. Barber was
born January 27, 1922 in Farwell, the son of Willis "Avery" and Lydia
(Reynolds) Barber. Don was united in marriage to Bettie Jean Higgins on
May 29, 1949 in Harrison. Bettie preceded Don in death on July 28, 2007.
Mr. Barber retired from Dow Chemical in Midland, after many years
of service. As dedicated ministers in the Community of Christ church in
Harrison, Don and Bettie served as Elders in the church and after Don's
retirement, they worked for the church as caretakers of Manitou
Campgrounds. Later, Don worked at Harrison Lumber Company. Don was
devoted to his family and the needs of children. A man of diverse
interests, Don raised roses, loved cars and the latest automotive
designs, bluegill fishing, bird watching, "puddy-tats", golfing, the
library and reading, and was interested in politics. He was a wonderful
cartoonist and shared his dry sense of humor-including some really
terrible puns. Don recognized the importance of the arts through music,
dance, and drama; and he gained a greater appreciation of pictorial art
because of his son, artist Steven Barber.
Surviving are two daughters: Sherry (Bill) Jagger of LaPorte,
Indiana and Julie (Jim) Reinke of Harrison, three sons: Donald (Brenda)
Barber Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, Phillip (Kathy) Barber of Vinton,
Virginia and Steven (Jessie) Barber of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, seven
brothers: Gerald Barber of Clare, Ernie Barber of Cape Coral, Florida,
Ellis (Doris) Barber of Muskegon, Michigan, Elton Barber of Pontiac,
Michigan, Larry (Lana) Barber of Farwell, Dewey (Vicki) Barber of
Prudenville, Michigan and Bruce (Mary) Barber of East Jordan, Michigan,
six sisters: Helen (Russ) Sanders of Clare, June (Don) Wallace of
Farwell, Verna (K.C.) Green of Clare, Stella (Gordon) Rydman of
Rosebush, Wanda (Bud) West of Beaverton, Donna (Nelson) Clark of
Coleman, and Marcia (Curt) Wagner of Green Valley, Arizona, fourteen
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law: Stella
Higgins, Doris Higgins and Donna Higgins, plus numerous nieces, nephews
and cousins. Mr. Barber also was preceded in death by his parents, one
son, David Barber, one brother, Robert "Arlo" Barber and one grandson,
Matthew Reinke.
Celebration of Life memorial services were held Saturday, January
5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Community of Christ Church-Harrison with the
family of Donald L. Barber officiating. Inurnment will be in Surrey
Township Cemetery, Farwell. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr.

CHARLES R. MOORE
Charles R. Moore,
age 88 years of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Saginaw, passed away
Monday, December 31, 2007, in Arizona.
The son of the late Roy H. and Berniece (Taylor) Moore was born
November 11, 1919 in Sandusky, Michigan. He married Aileen E. Lodge, in
1938. His wife of 69 years survives him. He was self-employed as a
Commercial Broker. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the
European Theatre and was a life member of the V.F.W. He was of the
Lutheran faith.
Surviving are four children and their spouses, Charles and Mary
Moore, Mt. Pleasant, MI; Gary and Tina Moore, Harrison, MI; Colleen and
Tom Carpenter, Prescott, AZ; Kathleen Griffith, Mesa, AZ; ten
grandchildren; six great grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister
predeceased him.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12,
2008, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev.
Douglas Kahl will officiate with Military burial in Roselawn Memorial
Gardens under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #1859. Family and friends may
call at the chapel from 10:00 Saturday until time of the funeral

PAULENE R. TERWILLIGER

Paulene R. Terwilliger, age 86 of
Harrison, Michigan formerly of Alma, Michigan, died Thursday, December
27, 2007 at her home.
Funeral Services were held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis
Chapel St. Louis, MI on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 1:00PM. Mr. Mark
Salchert officiated burial was at Chapel Garden Cemetery Seville
Township, Michigan on Monday, December 31, 2007. Visitation was held on
Saturday, December 29, 2007 from 2-6 P.M.
Paulene was born in Crystal, Michigan on May 4, 1921, the daughter
of Claude and Opal (Morey) Smith. She grew up in the St. Louis area, and
resided most of her life in Alma and graduated from St. Louis High
School. Paulene married Fred Terwilliger on July 25, 1942 in St. Louis,
Michigan. He died on February 26, 2006. She worked for 14 years at the
Customer Service desk at Giant Way in Alma, MI. Paulene was an avid
letter writer and bowled on a woman’s league in the past. She enjoyed
their retirement home at Budd Lake, and having friends and family over.
Paulene was active in the Alma VFW Ladies Auxillary.
She is survived by 3 children; Janice & Tom Salchert of Blanchard,
MI, Lyle Terwilliger & special friend Gale of Alma, MI, Tom Terwilliger
& special friend Penny of St. Louis, MI, 7 grandchildren; Aaron & Jen
Leonard, Joseph Leonard, Scott Terwilliger, Jamie Terwilliger, Casey
Terwilliger, Thomas B. Terwilliger, Elijah Terwilliger, several great
grandchildren, and 2 special friends & caregivers; Linda Fairchild of
Harrison, MI, and Michelle Dickinson of Mt. Pleasant, MI. She is
predeceased by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

RALPH LEE CONRAD
1925 ~ 2007
Ralph Lee Conrad, age 82, of
Harrison, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at his home in
Harrison. He was born the son of Ralph and Hazel (Stevens) Conrad on
October 31, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. On February 24, 1945, he was
united in marriage to the former Virginia G. Panno in Detroit, Michigan.
Mr. Conrad had worked in the automotive industry for many years as a
supervisor. In his spare time, he enjoyed: woodworking, fishing, and
hunting. He was also a life member of the Novi American Legion Post and
was an active member of the St. Athanasius Catholic Church of Harrison
and also the Harrison Knights of Columbus where he was also a 3rd Degree
Council and had served as secretary. Ralph had lived in the Harrison
area since 1995 where he had moved from Novi, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Harrison; his son, Ralph
(Linda K.) Conrad III, of Grandville, Michigan; six grandchildren and
fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Sera of Gulfport,
Florida and Kay Conrad of Indianapolis, Indiana; and several nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Carol
Mickelson, who passed away in 2005.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 10:00
a.m. from the St. Athanasius Catholic Church with Father Noel Rudy
officiating. In keeping with Ralph's wishes, cremation will take place
immediately following funeral services. Those wishing to express their
