ELSIE JEAN HEBER
1929-2009

   Elsie Jean Heber, age 80, of Harrison, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009 in Clare, Michigan. She was born on July 30, 1929 in Durham, North Carolina, the daughter of Alton Theodore and Elsie Mae (Vaughan) O’Briant. Jean married Robert William Heber on November 1, 1946 in Durham, North Carolina.
   Mrs. Heber was a long time resident of Harrison. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Harrison and former member of the American Legion Post 404 Women’s Auxilary and the V.F.W. 1075 Women’s Auxilary. Jean retired from the Harrison Community Schools.
   Surviving Jean is her husband, Robert, her six sons, Randall Heber and wife Deborah of Merrill, Michigan, Douglas Heber and wife Jean of Clarkston, Michigan, Keith Heber and wife Sue of Clare, Michigan, Timothy and Kevin Heber both of Harrison and Mike Heber of Grand Rapids, Michigan, two daughters, Teresa Pozdol and husband Stanley of Mears, Michigan and Jody Lipovsky and husband David of Harrison, one brother, Lee O’Briant of New Jersey, two sisters, Eunice Pennell of Durham, North Carolina and Cara Perry of North Carolina, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Heber took place on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Inurnment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial contributions may be considered to the First Congregational Church, Harrison or the American Heart Association. KAREN M. GOWEN

Karen M. Gowen, age 44 of Elizabeth, Arkansas passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at her residence. She was born May 11, 1965 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Gerald and Margaret (Chilcutt) Griswald.
   Karen graduated in 1982 from Harrison Community Schools, Harrison, Mi. Karen was employed with Clare County Sheriffs Department from March of 1985 until May 1991. Mrs. Gowen married Don Gowen on October 15,1991 in PawPaw, Michigan. She was a Real Estate Broker in the Twin Lakes Area. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors.
   Mrs. Gowen is survived by her husband: Don Gowen of Elizabeth, a son: Jeremy Gowen of Mountain Home, three step-sons: Donnie Gowen, Jr., David Gowen and Robert Gowen and wife: Holly, all of Sturgis, Michigan, a sister: Michelle, a brother: Ron, a dear uncle and aunt: Gino and Faye Griswald of Hardy, Arkansas, many loving family members and several loving grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
   Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Custer-Herron Cemetery.

ALBERTA RODGERS
December 20, 1911 - December 28, 2009

   Alberta Fassnacht Rodgers, age 98 of Harrison, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Clare, Michigan. Alberta was born on December 20, 1911 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Milton and Ada (Crawford) Fassnacht. She married Howard E. Rodgers Sr. in 1932 in West Virginia.
   Mrs. Fassnacht Rodgers had resided in Harrison since 1970, coming from Birmingham, Michigan. Alberta worked alongside her husband operating a bait shop, cabin rental and boat rental business on Budd Lake for several years.
   Surviving is her son, Howard E. Rodgers Jr. of Mckinney, Texas, plus several grandchildren. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sr. on July 15, 1980, her parents, one grandson, Jeffery Scott O’Leary and daughter Linda O’Leary on December 1, 2009.
   In keeping with Mrs. Fassnacht Rodgers’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Akron, Ohio. BARRY LINN FRANK
MAY 28, 1953 - JANUARY 2, 2010

   Barry Linn Frank, 56, of Beaverton, passed away on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 at Central Michigan Community Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, from complications of ALS.
   Born May 28th, 1953, in Lansing, Michigan and raised in Harrison, Barry was the son of Richard and Beverly (Lincoln) Frank. He was united in marriage to the former Cindy S. Carr on March 16,1974.
   An avid outdoorsman and a member of the Bay County Gun Club, Barry was the owner of BLF Sports in Gladwin. His store was a popular haunt for local hunters, gun collectors, and Barry’s many friends. He worked until the progression of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, required him to close the store.
   He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Cindy S. Frank; children Sara Frank-Hepfer (Pat) and Patrick Frank; grandson Eli Hepfer; Beverly and Duane Hoeft, his mother and stepfather; siblings Kim Frank and Cristie Brown. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Ray and his brother Timmy.
   A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison. SHIRLEY JEAN JURRJENS

   Shirley Jean Jurrjens, age 80, born in Detroit, Mi on Jun. 6,1929 departed on Dec. 24, 2009 and resided in Royal Oak, Mi.
   Beloved wife of Hank R. Jurrjens, Loving mother of Pamela (Martin) Markiewicz and Nancy (Thomas) Pilbeam. Predeceased by her parents the late Harold and Alice Land. Dear sister of Charles (Ada) Land. Proud grandmother of Scott (Terri) and Robert (Tammi) Markiewicz, Amanda (William) Dobson, Thomas Jr. and Lynn (Fiancé Adam Leckler) Pilbeam and six Great-grandchildren. LOIS C. VANWAGNER
November 23, 1932 - December 26, 2009

   Lois Carolyn VanWagner, age 77 of Harrison, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Mid Michigan Medical Center, Clare, Michigan. Lois was born on November 23, 1932 in Genesee County, Michigan, the daughter of William Norman and Arvada Belle (Corson) Bailey. She married Mr. Carl VanWagner on June 15, 1951 in Chesaning, Michigan.
   Mrs. VanWagner had resided in Harrison since 1969 coming from Eaton Rapids, Michigan. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, shopping with her grandson Brent and playing bingo.
   Surviving Lois is her loving husband, Carl VanWagner of Harrison, two sons, Mike VanWagner of Harrison and Ralph VanWagner and wife Cheryl of Harrison, one brother, Clarence Bailey of Houghton Lake, Michigan, two sisters, Marilynn Smalley of Houghton Lake, Michigan and Cheryl Green and husband Tom of Midland, Michigan, six grandchildren, Jenny, Carl, Allen, Elaine, Lois and Brent, two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nevaeh plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Richard “Rick” VanWagner on February 7, 2003.
